7 Ways To Make Servant Leadership Work

Many people fail to comprehend there are multiple aspects of servant leadership. Vision and direction which is that portion dealing with leadership. Leadership is a direction. Employees fail to fully commit if they can’t to see where the company is going and have confidence in the leader to articulate the message. A nebulous articulation of a plan reveals the lack of faith a leader has in the plan. Which means said leader needs suggestions from front line employees confidently willing to explain alternative without fear of reprisals.

This will denote you are going somewhere. Your people want to follow you. But, remember for them to have heart and soul in the plan, beyond compliance, they must know where you are going. Ask yourself:

  1. What is your business?
  2. What compels you to be in this business?
  3. Why is this important to employees beyond the company increasing profits?
  4. If you do a great job in your business what happens next?
  5. What guides your business. What values stimulate your journey?
  6. What is your picture of the future?
  7. What are your goals?

Employees often view goals as threatening because the leader hasn’t convinced them beyond the sticks and carrots approach what in it for them. Employees want to be part of the process. They aren’t antithetical to change. They want to be part of the process. Jim
